Insights on...Bob Parson's 16 Rules for Success

Bob Parson’s (of GoDaddy.com fame) 16 Rules for Success and my comments.

1. Get and stay out of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself. Columbus would not have discovered America had he stayed in Italy, and Lindbergh would not have flown the Atlantic non-stop had he been content in flying only in the U.S.
2. Never give up. As Winston Churchill said “Never, never, never give up.”
3. When you’re ready to quit, you’re closer than you think. Take a deep breath and try again. Push yourself, you’ll be surprised what you’ll be able to accomplish.
4. With regard to whatever worries you, not only accept the worst thing that could happen, but make it a point to quantify what the worst thing could be. At the same time, as long as you’re not dead, things are never as bad as they seem to be.
5. Focus on what you want to have happen. Don’t distract yourself with the negatives. Always keep a positive attitude and surround yourself with positive people. It is contagious.
6. Take things a day at a time. Do your best today. Tomorrow, improve on it.
7. Always be moving forward. If you stand still, you’re falling behind.
8. Be quick to decide. Indecision is worst than a bad decision.
9. Measure everything of significance. Just so that you see the fruits of your hard work and motivate yourself further.
10. Anything that is not managed will deteriorate. You have to keep things under control.
11. Pay attention to your competitors, but pay more attention to what you’re doing. Focus, Focus, Focus.
12. Never let anybody push you around. Do what you believe in and Focus, Focus, Focus. Don’t listen to naysayers and dream killers.
13. Never expect life to be fair. Success is the exception to the rule.
14. Solve your own problems. You created your own problems, solve them, learn from them and don’t repeat them.
15. Don’t take yourself too seriously. At a minimum you’ll feel better.
16. There’s always a reason to smile. Definitely J
